GstarLM Network License Server Architecture: Floating Pools, Firewall Ports, Subnet Routing & Offline Borrowing

Deploy GstarLM floating perpetual licenses across Windows and Linux servers, bind static TCP daemon ports through corporate firewalls, and configure offline laptop seat borrowing.

1. Why Floating Network Licensing Outperforms Named-User Subscriptions

When Autodesk retired multi-user network licensing in favor of mandatory Named-User subscriptions, enterprises were forced to buy a 1:1 license for every occasional user, project manager, and shift worker. Suzhou Gstarsoft Co., Ltd. (SSE: 688657) engineered GstarLM (Gstarsoft License Manager) to preserve true enterprise floating concurrency: a pool of 100 perpetual network licenses can legally serve 250+ engineers across global time zones or rotating manufacturing shifts, achieving an immediate 60%–85% TCO reduction.

Crucially, GstarLM operates 100% on-premises inside your private corporate network—making it ideal for air-gapped defense facilities, semiconductor wafer fabs, and power-grid control centers with zero external internet access.

2. Static TCP Port Binding & Corporate Firewall Rules

By default, network license managers negotiate dynamic TCP ports, which can be blocked by strict Windows Defender or Cisco/Palo Alto VLAN firewalls. For deterministic multi-subnet routing, pin both the Master License Daemon and the Vendor Daemon to static TCP ports in your license configuration:

Service Component Recommended Static Port Firewall & Subnet Routing Requirement
GstarLM Master Service TCP 27000 (Inbound/Outbound) Handles initial client license handshake (`[email protected]`) across engineering VLANs.
Gstarsoft Vendor Daemon TCP 27001 (Pinned Static) Maintains heartbeat checkouts and automatic seat reclamation if a client workstation crashes.
Web Management Console TCP 8080 / HTTPS 8443 Restricted to IT Administrators for real-time seat utilization graphs and borrow logs.

3. Silent Client Binding & Offline Field Laptop Borrowing

When deploying GstarCAD 2027 to 500 client machines via SCCM or Active Directory GPO, pre-populate the license server address via registry or PowerShell so engineers never see an activation prompt:

# PowerShell — Silently Bind GstarCAD 2027 Clients to Primary & Failover GstarLM Servers
$RegPath = "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Gstarsoft\GstarCAD\R27\License"
if (!(Test-Path $RegPath)) { New-Item -Path $RegPath -Force | Out-Null }
Set-ItemProperty -Path $RegPath -Name "LicenseServer" -Value "[email protected];[email protected]"
Write-Host "[GstarLM] Configured redundant floating license servers successfully."

For field engineers visiting construction sites or offshore platforms without VPN connectivity, open the GstarCAD License Manager utility on the laptop before departure, select Borrow License, specify the return date (e.g., 14 or 30 days), and click Borrow. The seat automatically returns to the central corporate pool at midnight on the expiration date—or early if the engineer clicks Return License Early upon reconnecting to the office LAN.

4. Prometheus / SNMP Telemetry & Automated Seat Utilization Auditing

For IT Asset Management (ITAM) teams managing 100 to 2,000 floating seats across multiple time zones, tracking peak concurrent checkout ratios (`Peak Active Seats / Total Entitlement Pool`) is essential for right-sizing annual maintenance or perpetual expansion orders. GstarLM provides both a RESTful JSON status endpoint on the local administration port (`http://127.0.0.1:27009/api/v1/status`) and structured daily audit logs.

# PowerShell Scheduled Task: Query GstarLM Seat Utilization & Alert at 90% Threshold
$LmHost = "cad-lic-01.corp.example.com"
$ApiUrl = "http://${LmHost}:27009/api/v1/pools"

try {
    $Pools = Invoke-RestMethod -Uri $ApiUrl -TimeoutSec 5
    foreach ($Pool in $Pools.features) {
        $Used = [int]$Pool.in_use
        $Total = [int]$Pool.total_seats
        $Ratio = [math]::Round(($Used / $Total) * 100, 1)
        Write-Output "[$(Get-Date -Format o)] Feature: $($Pool.name) v$($Pool.version) | Active: $Used/$Total ($Ratio%)"
        if ($Ratio -ge 90.0) {
            # Trigger Teams / Slack Webhook or SNMP Trap for IT Operations
            Write-Warning "HIGH UTILIZATION ALERT: $($Pool.name) reached $Ratio% capacity!"
        }
    }
} catch {
    Write-Error "CRITICAL: GstarLM primary daemon unreachable on $LmHost. Checking failover node..."
}

Zero-Downtime License Renewal & Borrowing (`BORROWLICENSE`): Field engineers departing for offshore rigs, tunnel construction sites, or air-gapped military facilities can borrow a floating network seat directly to their laptop for up to 180 days (or whatever maximum cap is defined in your server policy table). When the borrow period expires—or when the engineer clicks Return License Early upon reconnecting to the corporate LAN—the seat automatically returns to the central GstarLM pool without manual IT intervention.
